Weekend in Oregon
End of the Day at Cannon Beach 7-22-06 We all went down to Oregon on Friday (7/21/06) to visit Ron, Ellie and Max. Our original plan was to go camping, but with the temperatures expected to be 110 degrees, we figured maybe camping and hiking weren't the best ideas, so we went to Cannon Beach on Saturday. We got to the beach around 11 am, found a place to drop our stuff and spent most of the day walking the beach. It was a beautiful day, hot, but with a good breeze and you could always stick your toes into the CHILLY water. Dave even got himself pretty wet because Jezebelle actually got so tired swimming in the surf that Dave had to go in and grab the handle on her life vest so he could help her in to shore (the life vest pays for itself AGAIN).
Both Fiona and Max napped at the beach (and so did Daddy, in fact). We did some shopping (wait until you see my next knitting project, oh boy...) and left to return to Portland around 5:30 pm. It was a great day where the parents all got fried, but managed to keep the babies from getting much sun at all...go figure.
We had a great time with Ron, Ellie and Max, as always.
One thing I can't figure out. Fiona still refuses to eat solid foods, but while on the beach, she kept shoving sand into her mouth. Every time she was actually successful at getting a handful of sand into her mouth (that stuff is slippery and usually by the time she got her hand to her mouth, the sand was all in her lap), she would make the same horrible face that she makes when we try to feed her food. Then she would reach down for another handful of sand.
Okay, so maybe that's because when she makes the horrible face while we are feeding her, we keep trying to shovel it in. But she will usually only tolerate a few spoonfuls at a time. This whole scenario at the beach was weird because first of all, we never tried to get her to eat the sand and no matter how many times she made the horrible face, she kept trying to shovel more sand into her mouth...she seemed to have no end of tolerance for sand (even if it was yucky), but try to get more than 3 spoonfuls of pears into her mouth and...well, forget about it. I don't understand.
Ellie gave us this beautiful sun poncho and hat - you can see the poncho in the last photo (if you click on the photo it will enlarge) - it's so cool because it is light weight to shield Fiona from the sun, but not be hot and uncomfortable (and the hole in the top is large enough to go over her head with no fuss - good stuff). Anyway, I'm sure there's more stuff I could report here, but I can't think of what it is, so more later.
